Who Are New York’s Asian Americans?

ETHNIC PROFILES

Asian Americans represent a diversity of lived experiences and circumstances. Where do they come from? Where do they live and work? How old are they? Are they rich or poor?

AAF’s profiles of New York’s fastest-growing communities provide invaluable insights into the diverse Asian ethnic groups that contribute to our City. We cover population growth, neighborhood concentration, age, immigration and citizenship status, educational attainment, spoken English ability, poverty, income, benefits and health insurance coverage, employment, housing, computer and internet usage and other key demographic and socioeconomic data for specific Asian ethnic groups.

These profiles were released in August 2022 and are based on the 2020 American Community Survey 5-year Public Use Microdata Sample. Profiles for the 6 other largest Asian ethnic groups (Bangladeshi, Nepali, Pakistani, Sri Lankan, Taiwanese, Thai) are pending the release of additional data from the US Census Bureau, which is currently expected summer 2023.
