Ways of Giving

Numerous corporations, foundations, organizations and individuals play a part in fueling our efforts to remain a unique resource and a unifying voice for the Asian American community. If you are also interested in helping the Asian American Federation, we are ready to help you find the best ways to get involved. Grants, gifts in kind, and utilizing charitable vehicles are but some ways to help support our work. To discuss giving opportunities, please call Meera Venugopal, Development & Communications Manager, at (212) 344-5878 ext. 224 or meera.venugopal@aafederation.org.

Individuals can also contribute through their company’s Matching Gift Program. Please contact your Human Resources Department for more details to see if your company can match your charitable contributions.

By Personal Check

Send your tax-deductible contribution made payable to the Asian American Federation to:

Asian American Federation
120 Wall Street, 9th Floor
New York, NY 10005

If you are making a contribution for a specific program or fund, please indicate this in the memo section of your check.

Securities or Mutual Fund Shares

You may enjoy substantial tax savings by transferring gifts of appreciated securities. These gifts may be deducted at fair market value*. Gifts of long-term appreciated assets (securities owned for at least one year and one day) are particularly beneficial in terms of tax savings, if you qualify. In addition to receiving a charitable deduction for the full fair market value of such a gift, you completely avoid the capital gains tax and any sales commission that would be due upon the sale of the security.

*Valuation and Date of Gift
The value of your gift is the mean between the high and low quotations on the date you make your gift. The IRS determines that your gift is made on the date the securities pass unconditionally from your control. For mailed securities, this is the date of mailing. For securities transferred by your broker, this is the day the stock is received in an Asian American Federation account.

Make a Bequest

Naming the Asian American Federation as a beneficiary in a will or living trust works particularly well for those who are unable to make an immediate outright gift, but would like to contribute something, just at a later date when they are better able to.

The following are some examples of various types of bequests:

  • Specific bequests– the donor decides a specific dollar amount from his/her estate to be given.
  • Residuary bequests– all other bequests listed are paid out first and then the remainder for the charity is paid out after.
  • Proportional bequests– the donor sets a proportion or a percentage of the estate to be given.

If you are considering making a bequest to the Asian American Federation, please first consult with your attorney. Once your will is drafted or updated, please call our office to ensure that the language used achieves your specific philanthropic goals.

Another Way You Can Help

The Federation and our member agencies are always looking for individuals who would be willing to contribute their time, talent, and energy. The Federation can match your interests with a specific field of interest or community organization. Just send your resume with a letter describing your interests to our Volunteer Coordinator at meera.venugopal@aafederation.org.
