AAF Statement on U.S. Supreme Court Decision to Overturn Roe v. Wade
For 50 years, Roe v. Wade protected a woman’s right to make personal decisions about the health of her body and the right that is available to all of us – choosing how to live our lives. The Supreme Court on Friday snatched away this constitutional right. This decision will leave nearly 40 million people without safe access to abortion and reproductive care and worsen racial inequities that harm people of color, low-income people who lack the means for travel, childcare, and time off from work, and immigrants – people that AAF fights for every day.
We believe that abortion and reproductive care is health care and necessary to uplift and empower our communities. We will continue to fight for policies and protections to safeguard our community from harm. Organizations such as the National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum (NAPAWF) and Asian & Pacific Islander American Health Forum (APIAHF) are leading in ensuring reproductive health justice for the AAPI community, and we continue to stand with them. We urge you to do the same.
