Empowering New York’s Asian American Community Since 1989

AAF Statement on the Results of the 2024 Election

Now that we know the results of this consequential election, we want to send a heartfelt message of solidarity to everyone in our community—our dedicated members, our community, steadfast supporters, and committed staff.

In New York State, where there are over 2.1 million Asian Americans, millions in our community exercised their democratic rights and made their voices heard. While there may be many in our community who are celebrating this outcome, we also recognize that others in the AAPI community may feel a range of emotions from anxiety, to uncertainty, to sadness about the future.

The past few years have been difficult with the rise in anti-Asian and anti-immigrant feelings and hate crimes. We are proud that our community has been resilient and stayed strong and united through these hard times. We will no doubt once again face extraordinary challenges—but more than ever, we believe the only way to move forward is to keep supporting each other, build community and connection, and defend the rights and safety of the most vulnerable among us.

As we process the effect of this election, the Asian American Federation (AAF) remains deeply committed to improving the well-being of our beloved community, as we have for the past 35 years. We will work tirelessly to advocate for better mental health, for a better economic future, for better safety and security for those we serve—informed by our research. We will never stop fighting for our voices to be heard in the halls of power and for our votes to be counted.

We remind the new administration that our country was built by the hands of our diverse communities. We have made unique contributions, which should be celebrated and respected. Asian Americans are an increasingly influential voice across New York.

AAF will continue to lead our communities to demonstrate our power and resilience. The only way forward is to continue to stand strong, build resources and community, support one another, and defend the rights and safety of the most vulnerable New Yorkers. We will not back down, and we trust that our unity and resilience will light the way forward.
