Asian American Federation and Membership Statement on Election Results
New York City: On Wednesday, November 9th, the people of the United States, a country of immigrants, learned that Donald Trump was elected the 45th President of the United States. The Asian American Federation and our membership hope that he will be a president for all our people.
During this election season, we heard rhetoric that deeply concerned many New Yorkers. This morning, we are hearing from our community that they are experiencing anxiety and fear for many reasons, and many leaders are worried about the impact on federal funds that support social services programs. The Federation and leaders of the Asian American community are committed to working with President-elect Trump to ensure that our communities are valued and that our needs still matter.
While our country’s leadership has changed, the collective mission of our work remains the same – that is to serve the most vulnerable and marginalized residents of our community. We believe that good leaders are created through accountability and engagement. We understand that no one community can succeed when other communities are vulnerable. Together, we will engage ALL elected leaders to combat anti-immigrant hate and secure the safety of all New Yorkers.
