Asian American Federation and Community Partners Celebrate Successful 2010 Census
NEW YORK—For Constitution Day, September 17, the Asian American Federation and their 39 community partners celebrate the successful collaborative campaign to encourage civic participation among all Asian Americans by participating in the 2010 Census. A recognition reception and ceremony will follow a day of discussion where community leaders discuss strategies to effectively outreach to Asian Americans, how to use census data to make informed decisions that impact the Asian American communities, and ways to continue and improve census participation through 2020.
The Asian American Federation’s Census 2010 Community Engagement Campaign, an $880,000 initiative, was made possible by funding from a private foundation and the New York State Department of State. Federation Executive Director, Cao O states that “the Federation’s Census 2010 Community Engagement Campaign provided an unprecedented level of funding support to grassroots organizations across the Asian community for census outreach and promotion in New York State, New Jersey and Philadelphia. Through our collective effort, we were able to increase the number of Asian Americans counted and help increase the participation rates for many neighborhoods where Asians live.”
